the very, very, very, very beginning of learning how to handletter

It was one of my mini goals of 2017 to learn how to handletter. I've always loved my handwriting and I've always (secretly) loved writing in cursive, and I wished I could make pretty things like all the Pinterest quotes and such. I'd love to be able to make a few handlettered prints with quotes that mean a lot to Patrick and I to decorate our apartment, for example.

So, I got started.

My materials:

• These worksheets (free!)
• Tombow Dual Brush Pen
• Graph paper
• Plain white paper

It's been slow so far, and I think I'm on the letter L right now? I'm doing lower case letters first and then upper case, mostly because I'm afraid of the upper case letters right now. But I'm making progress! 

Hello is the only word I know how to do completely. So, I'm writing it every chance I get.

How I'm getting it done:

• I practice a little bit every day. Some days, if I have time, I'll spend more time with it.
• I trace the letter first on the worksheet.
• Then, I draw the same letter over and over until I feel comfortable with it.
• If I am having a heck of a time with a letter, I move on (had to say goodbye to K for a little while). I'll save the five hardest letters for last and fight through them.
• I'm not trying to write full words or sentences right now, other than for the above Instagram picture. Slow but steady.
